What is a Security Key? (DUO Security | 2FA)

A security key uses a physical device combined with security features like OTP (one-time-passwords) or tokens (randomized, recognized numbers) to authenticate users when logging into various university-account-related software.

In this case, these security keys can be used to bypass DUO Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) when prompted in the event that a user does not have or does not wish to use DUO Mobile.

Why use a security key?

Security keys provide robust protection against phishing and online threats, ensuring compliance with standards like FERPA, HIPAA, PCI DSS, and more.

Choose a Key Type

There are various forms of security key you can use, some of which are listed in below. When deciding which form, make sure your chosen security key supports FIDO standards and is compatible with your operating system (Windows, MacOS, Linux.)
